Battery cell prices likely to be pushed up

The SAMSUNG SB-LSM80 Battery is a premium product, says Silanesu, 'designed for people on the go'. Emmanuele Silanesu, national product and marketing manager for Samsung Australia's IT division spoke to Sky News about the launch of the ultra-thin, featherweight Samsung Notebook 9 Series and the Sliding PC 7 Series in Australia.

The device features a new material never before used, duralumin metal alloy, which is twice as strong as alumimun and half the weight. The Dell XPS M1530 Battery life is 'impressive', allowing 7 to 8 hours usage, 5-6 hours for movie playback.

The Sliding PC 7 Series is a tablet-based device equipped with a full keyboard that opens up with a sliding mechanism.

Sony NP-F330 Battery cell factories located in Fukushima prefecture, northeastern Japan, have stopped production in the wake of Friday's earthquake, and this may push up international quotes, according to Taiwan-based notebook and component makers.

Obviously people are adopting tablets now. But the one thing we've found from consumer comment was that it would be great if it also had a keyboard and could still be lightweight...'
And so Samsung has developed a fully functioning tablet to notebook device that will allow users to 'create content, rather than just consuming it'.

Taiwan-based Nikon EN-EL15 Battery pack makers Simplo Technology and Dynapack International Technology, however, may not be hit by the possible shortages because they procure battery cells mainly from Samsung Electronics and Panasonic, the sources said.
